4 tips to improve SEO for your business

Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO as it is more commonly known, has become a vital part of internet technology in the last decade or so.

Running an e-commerce business successfully is very difficult to do without taking SEO into consideration, so much so that many people working in digital communications are making a career from their SEO knowledge. We are giving away some SEO tips for free here though, in order to help you grow your business and hopefully convert search results into sales.

1. Get your search terms high up in your content

If you are running a business that sells flowers, make sure that the term ‘flowers’ comes early in any of the copy written on your website. This is one of the most simple tips there is and perhaps the most obvious, but you would be surprised how often people forget the basics.

2. Work with professional copywriters

Professional copywriters are trained in the art of SEO, so hiring a copywriter or working with a digital marketing agency is often a good idea for those with little knowledge of the area. When it comes to making a business decision, the increase in sales that you will see from being found on search engines more often could outweigh the extra expenditure of freelance staff.

3. Name your images correctly

SEO favours websites with cleanly named files used. Unlike titles and descriptions, this is an element of SEO that fewer people know about. If your website is for selling shoes, make sure the images you use are named accordingly, perhaps with the product name or brand of the shoes you are selling.

4. Use internal links within your website

Internal links are hyperlinks that will take visitors from one page of your website to another. These are really easy to set-up if you have the right website design and also, make your website easier to navigate. A user-friendly website also does well on search engines, so if you see an opportunity to link one webpage of yours to another, perhaps through a keyword or an image, be sure to do so.
